Eat Pray Love

I was in the middle of writing a blog post about Eat Pray Love, by Elizabeth Gilbert, when my friend sent me this (see below.)  Great timing.  I’ll be posting more on this book (because it’s one of my favorite books of all time!)  I’m so excited to see Julia Roberts as Liz in this movie.

Mad Men Style

mad-men-2.jpg

If you are part of the majority, you’ve fallen in love with AMC’s Mad Men.  Mad Men is a show about an advertising agency in Manhattan on Madison Avenue, thus the moniker Mad (Madison Avenue) Men.  The crazy vintage style makes you swoon!  It was a time where women were extremely sheltered, yet they smoked cigarettes and drank scotch from rocks glasses all day long….while pregnant.   Boozing and smoking are also commonplace in the work environment.  The blatant sexual harassment and gross neglect to identify women as equals to men is surreal.  It’s ironic to look at that era of time.  It was a time when politically correct or dysfunctional never crossed their minds.  The retro decor and fashions are delicious, with the main character, Don Draper, always in an impeccable suit.  Joan Holloway is the resident sex-kitten with pin-up girl looks and curves.  This is definitely one to Tivo!

Sam The Cooking Guy

sam_the_cooking_guy.jpg

Sam Zien, aka Sam The Cooking Guy, has a fantastic cookbook out called Just a Bunch of Recipes.  I picked mine up from the library, but can already tell, this will need to be a purchase for me; this will definitely be added to my massive cookbook collection.  It’s comprised of great recipes, everyday recipes, with a healthy twist.  His recipes are nutritious and healthy, but not painfully so.  Not to mention, Sam is a riot to watch or read.  It’s a fun book.  Thumbs up!

Best Mascara…Ever

kim-k-great-lash.jpg

There’s a reason that Maybelline’s Great Lash mascara is the best selling mascara in America.  Great Lash is used by many, many makeup artists in Hollywood, and models have been singing the praises of Great Lash for years.  It’s inexpensive, and it works great!  It also makes your eyelashes look a mile long.  What’s not to love?  (editorial note)….try the curved brush in brownish-black.  Looks great on blondes.

Tour Of The Cincinnati Ballet

Cincinnati Women Bloggers was extended the fab opportunity to have our monthly meeting at the Cincinnati Ballet.  Our meeting covered topics of blogging conferences and shared experiences at the recent blogging conference in Chicago, BlogHer.  (Sadly, the only one who enjoyed BlogHer was our Mommy-blogger.  Tech, creative, and business bloggers, etc., had a much different experience.)  …BlogHer is far too expensive to not take something away from the conference.

It will be interesting to see the attendance rates for BlogHer 2010.  BlogHer is a great idea, but the overall consensus is, BlogHer needs to be better planned for next year.  We are optimistic to see the changes for 2010 as BlogHer is a great idea at the core.

Back to the Ballet.  Terry Honebrink with the Cincinnati Ballet gave us a behind-the-scenes look at this incredible facility.  The costume rooms are amazing.  Her beautiful daughter even performed for us.  You can experience the Cincinnati Ballet at an upcoming FREE event called Ballet and Beer on September 3rd.  Highly recommended.  You’ll have the opportunity to go behind the scenes and mingle with Ballet performers.  Click here for more informationReservations are recommended at 513-621-5219.

See the video above to experience a piece of the Cincinnati Ballet for yourself.
