Scarlett Johannson is working the “sex-kitten-meets-bombshell” look to its fullest. The hair is perfect, the makeup is perfect, the dress is perfect. You can recreate this look with what you have. It’s classic and simplistic, yet stylish and sophisticated.
To achieve Scarlett’s soft, flowy curls, nothing but hot rollers will do. Hot rollers have made a come back and they are the perfect tool to create soft, sexy curls. Try Caruso steam rollers. (click on picture for info.) They are better for your hair than hot rollers because they work on steam, not heat. They produce the exact same results as hot rollers.
When it comes to red lips, I’m certainly an aficionado. I adore the “red lip” look. It’s classic and ultra sexy. I have tried (literally) thousands of brands and styles. Beautique (click on picture for details) is my all-time favorite red. I use the pencil all over my lips, as it goes on great as a lipstick, then use thison top. It produces the best red lip ever! The kicker… it’s way inexpensive!
There’s an unwritten rule..or, perhaps it’s written somewhere, that if you opt for a bold lip color, like the red above, you should go with a soft eye look. When you have too much eye and too much lip going on at the same time, your look can go from sophisticated to theatrical in seconds. Scarlett’s top eyelids are lined with a brown liquid liner. If you are a blonde, opt for brown instead of black. It’s less harsh and more flattering to your skintone.
Maybellene’s Great Lash is a long time favorite of makeup artists everywhere (certainly my fav!) But mascara reviews are like food reviews. Honestly, it’s all relative to what you, you, like. Most people, however, like it. It’s ultra-popular with the masses, and often times sold out at stores. Personal fav…brownish black Great Lash with the curved brush. *swoon*
Again, if you are blonde, opt for brownish black Great Lash. It softens your look and is super feminine.
Love her or hate her (and I think we mostly love her), Martha Stewart has left her mark on all of us in one way or another. Miss Martha turns 69 today.
When you think about the “queen of lifestyle and living”, Martha Stewart is the first name that comes to mind. Always. We have all learned how to throw better parties, cook better meals, and certainly decorate our houses in more interesting ways thanks to Martha.
She has taught us to be perfectionists (which strangely is looked upon as a negative in society) and we are better off for it.
Harrison Ford turns 68 today! Wow! I mean…68? Talk about keeping it together. Han Solo is working 68…which is apparently the new 50. Happy birthday, Mr. Ford (sang in my best Marilyn Monroe voice). If 68 looks this great, bring it on!
Want Jennifer Aniston’s body? Because you can have it. Did you know that? Okay, you can’t specifically have Jenn’s body, but you can have one that looks just like hers. Jennifer’s celeb fitness trainer, Mandy Ingber, dishes on how she trains Jennifer.
Tips from Mandy:
Start with cardio: Ingber suggests 30-60 minutes, three times a week. “Try running, cycling or even walking.”
Work thighs: “Temple pose is essentially a yoga squat. You plant your feet wide, then plie squat and hold for 30 seconds. Then plie deeply 8 times, followed by 8 quick shallow pulses. Repeat.”
Tone calves: “Lovely calves are underrated. Repeat this series slowly twice. Get on the balls of your feet, then lift and lower yourself 8 times followed by 8 quicker pulses.”
For more exercises, get Mandy’s DVD (and Jennifer Aniston’s workout), Yogalosophy.
Cincinnati had the pleasure of hosting Helen Hunt to close out the Smart Talk series for 2010. What an amazing season this was! The season started out with Valerie Bertinelli, who was a bubbly ray of light, Ann Compton, whom I think was my favorite because she was so personable and friendly behind the scenes, Patricia Heaton, who was as funny in person as she is on TV, Lee Woodruff, one of the strongest super-women you could have the pleasure of knowing, and Helen Hunt, who was excellent at public speaking, but was far more shy that I could have ever imagined.
I suppose that you don’t expect shyness from a celebrity who is ultra-exposed. However, shy she was. When Helen spoke of her gorgeous little red-headed daughter, she bubbled over with pride. Helen seems to gravitate towards roles now that are about motherhood, or the angst of not being able to conceive.
One trait of Helen’s that I now want to adopt in my own life is the ability to ignore gossip. Helen says “When someone says to me…I really shouldn’t be telling you this”, Helen replies with “Then don’t.” Or when someone says “Don’t say you’ve heard this from me, but…”, and Helen replies with “Don’t tell me, I don’t want to hear it!” I found that to stick with me, and again, I want to adopt that way of thinking for myself.
Helen says that she has been working as an actor since she was a child. Fortunately, that has helped her to take periodic breaks from acting in order to do the things she wants…like conceive a child, be an everyday mommy, and write screenplays. The money she had made as a younger person helps fuel her happiness as a more mature person, or, as Helen’s fertility doctor once called her “less young.”
Of all the Smart Talk speakers this season, Helen was the most surprising to me. Painfully shy and extremely introverted, to the point she barely murmured a word backstage. But Helen shined onstage. Her speech was intriguing, funny and engaging.
Kudos of the day goes to Victoria Principal! There are few things better than being sincerely charitable. Victoria has donated $200k to help clean up the eco-assault, otherwise known as the oil spill. In true Ewing style, Victoria donates big….we love her for that! Thanks, Vicki!
